Is it possible for an all-American family to live life with only all-American products?
At the request of "World News with Diane Sawyer," one Dallas family is going to give it a try and share their experiences with the country in a special series, "Made in America," focusing on U.S. manufacturing, jobs and what it all means for the nation's economy. In their single-story home on Snow White Drive, the Usrys lead full and active lives. Husband Jon, 39, works as an advertising executive and wife Anna is a stay-at-home mom who's active in community organizations. Son Landon, 7, is in first grade. Daughter Ellis, 6, is in kindergarten. And then there's the dog, a black lab named Amber.
"Both the kids are obsessed with her," Anna said.
Jon, Anna, Landon, Ellis and Amber have all agreed to participate in a unique experiment, emptying their living room, kitchen and master bedroom of any imported products and replacing them with items made in the U.S. From the rugs on the floors to the sheets on the bed to the TV on the wall, they'll find out where their products came from and whether similar goods are available from U.S. manufacturers.
"I thought that Ashton Kutcher was going to be coming around the corner, we were being punked," said Anna, recalling when she first heard ABC's request. There are still plenty of Americans at work making consumer products. More than 11 million Americans get their paychecks from working in factories, and according to Moody's Economy.com, if every American spent an extra $3.33 on U.S. made goods every year, it would create nearly 10,000 new jobs.

The problems with this video are FIRST..We see the displaced family driving off in a TOYOTA SUV..which,although probably made in this country,is STILL a foreign product due to the fact that Toyota is a JAPANESE company..Then we see them fretting over trying to find an American made coffeepot using Chinese made Cell Phones and a CHINESE Lenovo laptop....GIVE UP YOU CHINESE CELL PHONES PEOPLE!!!ALL of this falls to Bill Clinton and N.A.F.T.A.!!!

Toyota is built in America, the 2012 Toyota Camry has a U.S. parts content of 92% and is made in Kentucky! That makes it the most American car in the World and that is sad. While Cadillac XTS is built in China and sold here.

What's wrong with buying something that isn't made in America?? Seems like if I get something that I desire for the price I desire it, I have made a good trade

You're right, this piece was just the usual nationalistic propaganda we have all come to expect from the corporate media.

It is about creating jobs, keeping money circulating in our own country, and decreasing our dependency on other countries. We can create millions of jobs for members of our extended American family by simply making U.S. made products our default choice when shopping.

    It is stupid.

Does it really matter if something is made in China by cheap labor, or made in USA by more expensive robots that are still cheaper than American workers?

Some Americans get all worked up about finding a fruit bowl made in the USA, but then don't even think twice about filling it with bananas from Colombia, grapes from Mexico, apples from Chile & oranges from Spain.

They'll scream "made in USA, ONLY," & then tell their kid to go to college so they don't have to work in a factory.

The companies want to sell cheap and make money. There is not much pride of made in USA anymore. It's sad we have to do an easter bunny hunt for our good ole USA made these days. We should not have to search so hard to find things made in America. I have had problems looking for a damn toaster made in America. CEO's have sold America right out and out sourced jobs overseas to overwork children who work for nothing. Why isn't the President making it harder for them? Cause he sold out too.

If a parents gives their kid only "Made in America" products... wouldn't that kinda ruin his Christmas if he/she still believed in Santa?

Costco has more Made In America products then Sam Club and Wal Mart. I challenge my parents to find Made In America products and my dad found like five or six products
