The World Marches For Marijuana on May 7, 2011
The Global Marijuana March was on Saturday, May 7, 2011. Over 250 cities from countries around the world were on the list for the 2011 Global Marijuana March. Also known as the Worldwide Marijuana March, Million Marijuana March, or Global Cannabis March (among other various names), the event takes place every year at the beginning of May to call attention to destructive marijuana laws and demand an end to cannabis prohibition around the world.
This year, there were over 250 cities on the list. Cannabis Culture was at the rallies in Toronto and Vancouver, which were expected to be the largest marches in Canada. Approximately half of the participating cities were in the US.
VANCOUVER In Vancouver, protestors gathered at the Vancouver Art Gallery downtown (750 Hornby St.) starting at noon and marched at 2:00 pm to English Bay to hear music and activist speakers and took part in a large smoking session at 4:20 pm. Organizer David Malmo-Levine said that this year's event will be "a victimless crimespree with excesses of democracy".
