My middle name is Alydar. Took me awhile to find out why.

I was 13 years old then living in Bowie MD and my dad took me an my brother to Laurel to see this race! I bet two dollars on Affirmed, the only time i've ever bet on a horse race in my life.
Fantastic race of course, it prefigured their epic triple crown battles. I saw it from a position mid-stretch, so couldn't tell who won until they announced it.
