Having a long-distance relationship w/ poet/poem Amy Catanzano resulted in my spending time in Colorado in October & December of 2010 & January, May, & June of 2011. During this time, Amy's exceptional hospitality resulted in my experiencing alotof Colorado that I probably wdn't have otherwise. I didn't shoot footage of most of it & the footage I did shoot was fairly diverse. I was particularly fond of observing the Prairie Dogs at the 4 Mile Trailhead in Boulder. What to do w/ it all? Usually, when I shoot I have a fairly clear primary organizing concept. Since this wasn't the case here, I spent more time just trying to get interesting shots - such as by projecting a laser into a plastic encased beetle necklace & then shooting that in front of the camcorder lens while moving thru cave passages. Visiting Paula Gillen I remembered that at one time she'd made small ceramic figurative sculptures so I asked her whether she still had any of those & she did. I suggested that we place these sculptures at the Prairie Dog Colony. At one point I was thinking of giving specific Prairie Dogs the names of Naropa University staff (as a friendly shout-out). I discarded that idea as 'over-complicating'. As I edited the footage together, I was happy to make the unifying strategy be a highly kinetic playful tribute to all the fun I had visiting Amy & Paula (as well as a homage to the Prairie Dogs). - August 7, 2011 notes from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
