I've taken lessons and teachers had me do this drill but I never understood the benefits or how to do it correctly. I need to retool my swing and here is where I start. Thanks Shawn!

Excellent video. I've seen the foot drill before but you are the first to emphasis how important it is to move the butt in the opposite direction. Also, the take away position where the climber grips the club is excellent. It very clearly shows how to load the backswing in balance.
Hi Shawn
Loved your videos on YouTube so much that I have bought your DVD set but still waiting on it getting processed :)
Love using this drill however my bad shots with it are sometimes pulls any idea what is causing this?

@Fo12dy Yes; you are allowing the weight to go to the outside of the right foot in the backswing or you are releasing too much at the ball; please send me an email so I can check on your order! Shawn

I don't understand why teachers try to get your hips fully turned at start of backswing. Nobody does this so the takeaway drill isn't right. Notice when he does the feet together drill down the line, his hips keep turning the whole way to the top of his backswing. This is the correct motion and 99.9% of good players do this. On the other hand Shawn this is a great video and I like the way you keep the right foot rolling and not turning. Looks like it keeps club on the target line longer

@67jambo Tell that to Bubba Watson and Bobby Jones! The takeaway is bang on and if you look at the motions of baseball pitchers, baseball hitters, you will see why! Watch a baseball hitter is slow motion how he rears back as the arms drop; then the arms and bat go back up as he steps forward! Golf teaching is just beginning it's second century, don't let the fear mongers get you! See "Downswing weightshift; shawn clement" to understand why I am still turning at the top...
