When I try to teach this to my cat. When I grab his paw he just loses his balance and falls over.it looks funny but I'd rather have him put his paw in my hand..any tips?
-
@energyripple no, they're just fluffy. In no way are those cats obese. Nice try.

My cat doesn't want me to hold its paws. I don't want it to feel uncomfortable, because then it will never do the trick. Advice?

I tried this with my cat and he kept focusing on the food... It took like fifty tries and he still wont do it! ? :(

I taught my cat how to sit in 10 minutes. I did it the same way you teach a dog to sit. Now whenever i hold out my hand and say "sit", he sits, AMAZING!!

@Kathrine186347 @Kathrine186347 How about this: teach it right from wrong and it will begin to understand you. f you start feeding it the cat may see it as dominance over the owner- many times leading to misbehavior. Tell me- can you get a cat to go to its bed, lay down, sit, stay, stand, jump, come, go bathroom, or eat food etc. without a treat? Probably not- this involves a true understanding and bond between cat and owner- something treats cannot accomplish. Train with love. Best of luck!

Hi Jomemtum - yes YOU CAN teach an old cat new tricks! :0) The cat in this video was 10 years old when he learned this trick. The important thing is to be patient and gentle.

Thank you so much!! I've been trying to teach Cheesepuff (My cat) how to shake hands, so she could do it when there are guests! Now I gotta wait for her to come out of the clinic after getting neutered (Believe me, I didn't wanna neuter her!).

You did the right thing by neutering your cat gegirl9! There are too many unwanted cats out there. Let me know how your training with cheespuff goes! Will she take a treat from you hand?

The secret to cat training is PATIENCE. Most cats don't even like to take treats from you hand at first so start by hand feeding. Then gently touch cats paw before hand feeding. Then gently gras paw etc. Do the trick in small stages and it will work. It is also good because it will make it ez to trim nails later.
