  • Most of these communities were only settled in the first place for the fishing. I think most of these communities should be shut down, create communities of a realistic size that can still maintain a psedo-rural lifestyle. The only reason many of them still exist is the subsidies from the rest of the province and Canada. No question that is unfair to the incredible role they played in creating the province, but maintaining communities scattered all over the province makese no sense.

  • @jsmallwood2007 ps watch my video response.. Port Saunders a half hour North of Daniels Harbour

  • @HalifaxHercules...you kind of lost me on the "instead of rugged areas like most of the island" thing Walk around the cliffs of Point Riche and the limestone rocks peppered with fossils In Port aux Choix or visit Conche the beauty spot of the Northern Pen ......for that matter drive 15 mins north Daniels Harbour just past Bellburns and get out of your car and walk out and look over the edge if you want rugged for miles...The Mountains are distracting you :-) st Anthony is as rugged as it gets

  • No wonder Raliegh's population decreased, their school moved up to St.Anthony! Sadly when the new school is built here in St. Anthony, Griquet will lose their schools too.

  • I took a day trip to the Northern Peninsula last summer and plan to return there for my summer vacation, as far as Daniel's Harbour.

While villages and towns on the Northern Peninsula are situated along lowlands instead of rugged areas like most of the island, such as Parson's Pond and Daniel's Harbour, and their climate and environment is similar to Northern Canada, you'll definitely love the drive and people.

Remember to bring a sweater as summer temperatures can be cool.

  • yeah i hear there is lots of jobs in st johns but the companies just dont want to pay you a decent wage, its still how it was a hundred years ago, when the merchannts kept all the money to themselves..hasnt changed, thats nflds biggest problem, the way of thinkin hasnt changed..but still the most beautiful place in the world...but the fresh air and scenery is not going to feed you or pay off the young peoples student dept..thats why we are all in alberta.

  • Norris point is where my family came from, my last name is hiscock and a road was named after my fmaily, i belive its called Hiscock's Lane or Road. It was named back when my great grandfather lived there and he was the only one living on that road, i hope to move back to Norris point some day.. back to where my family came from.

  • look at how much the population of St.johns has grown and compare the two..

  • you forgot port saunders , we had a poplation drop of about 10% no trouble to feel the effects , other from that good vid with true facts that we are lift out that we are left out of the picture.

  • Agreed Arrowhead! I don't think it will happen overnight but with danny back in office i truly see a beter future for nfld. Min wage as risen, projects are sprouting up all over the place. This as only happened since he's been i office. He'll have my vote again and again as long as he keeps it real like he's been doing.
