Being an old lady now, I have heard this before. In fact, I have the old record that belonged to my dad. On our ranch in New Mexico, there was not a lot of entertainment. I would play his records over and over. This one kind of gave me the creeps then, but now it brings back great memories of winding up the little portable record player upstairs in my room and mullin' it over...haha! Five stars ***** for the great memory.

Hi Bryan, My dad had a small collection of 78rpms of all types of the music of his early days....the 1920s mostly. I have them now. There are some of Vernon Dalhart, Louise Massey, Jimmy Rogers etc. I would like to post them but must first get then transferred to CD or something I can play. Also, I have heard there are lots of restrictions. On my channel, you will find some that I did have transferred...the home recordings of some uncles of mine. Naomi

Hello there. Some of those older records should be public domain, but you would have to check to make sure. I suggest Internet Archive. If you find it on there under the 78 RPM recordings, it will be public domain. What I have seen some people do on YouTube is to take a camcorder and record the record as it's playing. I found the song recently in "Pioneer Songs", the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers song book, page 94...an arrangement by Alfred M. Durham. I had never heard it before, so your posting is a big help as I strum my ukulele in preparation for next month's DUP meeting. Who is Vernon Dalhart, and how did you come by this recording?

I am glad I could help you with that. To answer your question, Vernon Dalhart was a classicaly trained singer who recorded tons of songs for almost every record label out there at the time {teens-twenties}. Even though he recorded some more formal tunes, he is remembered the most for his many many country recordings. Many of the songs he sang are still old time and folk music standards. A neat guy to read about. As far as where I got this song at, it came from Intenet Archive.Thanx for watching!
