Controlled demolition of the towers in Villaggio Coppola, Italy. The buildings were primarily used as housing for U.S. military families. I lived in tower 2 (second from the right) when I was a teenager in the late 1980s.
Second tower, 3rd floor, 1977-1980. I was just a kid, but my best childhood memories are from Pinetamare. I used to roam the woods and the beach. At the time only two of the buidlings were complete, and the third was only halfway complete. I remember you could clearly see the 7th tower leaning slightly. The best memories there...
@Mistermax30 Yeah, I threw away a lot my dad's money at "Funlandia" around '89, too...especially after Tony sold the San Pan and it became "The Friend's Inn." That other Italian arcade across the way was the SALA GIOCHI! It was bigger and better than Tony's by far, but it could get a bit rowdy with all the older Italian guys that hung out there.
(sigh) The end of an era. I spent a good chunk of childhood there: tower 3, 3rd Floor (apt. 8) from '77-'80, and AGAIn in tower 3, 2nd floor, apt. E, from 1987 to 1990 (with a stint in Varcaturo from '84-'87). I probably knew a lot of you posting here. Class of '92. A lot f you probably knew my hell-raising younger brother who would've been in the class of '94. Started kindergarten down the street, and did 4th thru 6th there as well.
I remember hitting "funlandia" or whatever the arcade was called back then, which was right next to the PX. Then, if i felt brave, I'd hit the Italian run arcade across the way. A few good memories of visiting friends at the towers, which were considered pretty ghetto :)
