Soundtrack of My Summer: Chapter 21 (different!)

OK, guys. I totally messed up and posted the wrong chapter, but i fixed it, so here is the real chapter 21. Sorry:P

Emily's POV

"Holy crap," Nick Jonas mumbled through a mouthful of my mothers black bean salsa. "How can you possibly cook this good?"

I smiled, then dipped my chip into the salsa and took a small bite. I was so glad to see his slow but steady progress in the past two and a half weeks. Kevin had just told me the other day that Nick used to come home angry, tired, and frustrated after spending time with me. He'd told me that his little brother always felt like he would never be good enough, but I could see how hard he was trying and pushing himself. The youngest Jonas, Frankie, had come to visit for two days, and hed confided in me that he had noticed a difference.

I was really proud of his progress, so I decided to throw my plans out the window for the day so we could just chill and talk a little bit. I'd been really hard on him lately and wanted him to relax a bit. Sometimes teenagers just need to hand out and be kids for a while.

"My mom taught me how," I said finally.

"She was good at everything, wasnt she?"

I grinned wider. "Sometimes I really think she was. All my life, she taught me so much, and shes always told me how important it is to be strong."

"Well, she did a really good job," he told me. "So she rubbed off on you a lot, huh?"

"I dont know," I said, blushing fiercely. "My cooking and love of music, definitely, but I'm nowhere near as talented as she was. And I remember her being one of the most kind and trusting people I know. People could tell her anything, and she was everyones best friend. She gave so much. Oh, and she was a painter."

"You dont think youre like that?"

"No, I'm more of a photographer myself," I joked.

Nick rolled his eyes. "You know that's not what I'm talking about. But if the doors in your house are any indication, I'd say youre one heck of a painter, too. Emily, you're so talented, and you have an incredible voice. And I'm pretty sure I tell you absolutely everything. I can trust that you wont run off and tell the closest reporter everything."

I blushed again. We were supposed to be talking about him, not me. But I'm glad he felt he could trust me. I wonder how much...

"Do you ever wish you could go back and change something?" I blurted.

Nick's POV:

Did I wish I could change anything? I thought about that for a minute. You know what? I don't.

"Nope," I told her.

Emily raised a brow. "Really?"

"Really."

"Well, why not? I mean, so many people say they wouldn't, but I wish I could go back and stop my mom from going to the store that day. I wish I could tell her I love her, or stop my dad from taking me away from Pennsylvania. I could feel her watching me. You really wouldnt?"

"No way. Think about it. Everything in my life has led me to this moment, right here, right now. Aside from the fact that I've hurt so many people, I wouldn't change a thing. This is the only place I want to be," I said honestly. I reached over and wiped a tear from Emily's eye, then had a thought.

"Listen, Em. All we've done is work. Even when we're hanging out in a group, we're reliving memories, both good and bad, therefore causing our brains to over-analyze. How about tomorrow night, I take you out for dinner at a very fancy restaurant, and well pretend like I'm not Nick Jonas, your best friend isn't Taylor Swift, and like you have no idea why I'm really here in Linnings. Does that sound fair?"

I waited anxiously for an answer.

"Fair enough," she grinned. "I guess you can have your ties back, too. But Im keeping the turtle one. That's just weird."
