@wingsinger very good question! As far as I know you should never drill a PVC flue, and if this is recommended by anyone I would like to know the proper way to seal it.

Nice video, but why did he drill the combustion air intake pipe? And what method does he use to plug the hole in a category 4 flue pipe? Tap and thread in a stainless steel bolt with hi-temp caulk?

It looks like your oxygen level went from 12 originally to 14. According to specifications your oxygen is to high. This furnace is underfired, and should not be adjusted to what was done in this video. Fuel need proper oxygen to burn, the lower the oxygen level the hotter it burns.

@MODERATECALVINISM I could not tell you what the final O2 was on that furnace, it was simply where the videographer cut the last part of the frame. I was not trying to show in this video how to analyze the data from the analysis but rather to show the measurement process. Also that was a two stage furnace on low fire. It will run much higher O2 and CO on low fire. That is the nature of the beast. Two stages are for comfort not efficiency.

Again, this was not an instruction video on how to properly adjust a furnace, it was an primer into combustion. The furnace is a two stage and was firing on low fire. The O2 levels you saw are normal on low fire.

Thanks for the feedback, good catch, good question, again this is an introduction, not an instruction video. The hole in the intake pipe is drilled to measure combustion air temperature for an accurate efficiency calculation. This gives net stack temperature. The hole is typically plugged with high temperature caulk or as you described. Typically I would prefer to take the readings outside if at all possible and avoid drilling into the intake and exhaust altogether.
