American Bridge was general contractor, fabricator, steel erector, and performed all temporary works engineering for this 3,030' (924m) two hinged deck arch bridge. At 1,700' (518m) pin to pin, this is the longest deck arch bridge in the world. The deck of the structure is 900' (274m) above the river elevation, and the arch itself has a 370' (113m) rise. The weathering steel was fabricated at American Bridge's Ambridge, Pennsylvania, shops. The New River Gorge Bridge was completed by American Bridge in 1977.
Men of Steel! Got to admire that kind of engineering and those brave men risking life and limb to build it. Hat's off to you guy's!
