We saw several funnels today. I counted one in Iowa near Algona, then we went north and saw 4 more funnels and one tornado. Two of the funnels may have been tornadoes, one of which we never got stills or video of.
Were these funnels from low-topped supercells? Were they cold-air funnels? Hmmm. My guesses: Funnel #1-funnel only. Funnel #2-prob. circulation on ground...tornado. Funnel #3- very brief..funnel only. Funnel #4-probably circulation on ground....tornado. Please ask for a tripod for Christmas. Joel in Tucson
Not low-topped, no. Not cold air. Fairly classic, but within a multicellular complex. You guessed right on all of them I believe... the tornado survey hasn't been published yet, but the dark one was on the ground briefly and the thin white one was on the ground. The wife took the video... was pretty good for her first tornadoes.
