Soprano Dominique Gless in the terrific and most difficult role of Massenet's Esclarmonde...made famous in 1974 by Joan Sutherland who sang it at the San Francisco Opera and recorded it for Decca in 1975.

  • i don't get her high notes...joan sutherland can do it...than again that is joan sutherland...but i can't judge i'm a baritone...this is way out of my territory.

  • Orchestras rarely tune at A 440. Some tune as high as 452! Bergonzi did a masterclass on this issue. Makes singing that much more difficult! Conductors like the bright sound, but they aren't singing!

  • Lovely to see this opera live on past Sutherland's retirement.

  • @Hako2004

I'm a singer and I still don't understand it, precise pitch is something I've has since childhood and I can't comprehend not having it. not that I'm saying this to brag, but it just seems like people's brains work in vastly different ways and this effects singing. pitch problems aside, that voice, WOW!

  • what ever happened to Dominique Gless? is she still singing? I can't find anything on Google...

  • i dont know what i meant in my comment...but your reply confuses me. i enjoyed this piece...i dont know what i would have found wrong with this over a year ago.

  • I absolutely love this!

  • YAWN YAWN YAWN. Perfect this perfect that. I am a singer and a musician BLAH BLAH BLAH. The next time you are on stage in costume singing anything and people actually applaud let us know and we will listen to your ridiculous comments.
