@chitownsuperfan He got hit by the Koopa in that castle because he had to keep running to make the jump. Pause it at 11:39. The Koopa landed on him just a few seconds before the big pit of lava. If he jumped on the Koopa, he would have to land and rebuild his speed by running back and running forward again and then make the jump over the lava pit.
He did it to save time.
