In 1995, Windows changed the PC. In 2012, Microsoft will show you that Windows 8 changes everything!!

Windows 8 is the tentative name for the upcoming version of the Microsoft Windows family of operating systems, for use on personal computers. It is expected to be released in 2012.

At the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada, Microsoft announced that it would be including support for system-on-a-chip (SoC) and mobile ARM processors in its next version of the Windows operating system.
Windows 8 includes a new Hybrid Boot option that uses advanced hibernation functionality on shutdown to allow faster startup times. Another new feature is the ability to create a Portable Workspace, an installation of Windows 8 on a USB storage device. Cloud synchronization, the Ribbon user interface, a built-in PDF reader called Modern Reader, an improved control panel, and the Windows App Store are some of the new features coming up in Windows 8.

Here are a few aspects of the new interface:

- Fast launching of apps from a tile-based Start screen, which replaces the Windows Start menu with a customizable, scalable full-screen view of apps.

-Live tiles with notifications, showing always up-to-date information from your apps.

- Fluid, natural switching between running apps.

- Convenient ability to snap and resize an app to the side of the screen, so you can really multitask using the capabilities of Windows.

- Web-connected and Web-powered apps built using HTML5 and JavaScript that have access to the full power of the PC.

- Fully touch-optimized browsing, with all the power of hardware-accelerated Internet Explorer 10.

  • Hey, Randy, I'm not sure if you're any good with windows, if not, don't read the rest of this comment. If you are, could you give me a bit of advice on an issue with Google Chrome (latest version) that I'm running. It's about YouTube, where everytime I play a video for the first time, the video freezes 2-3 seconds in. It happened with this video, too. Could you give a bit of advice about how to fix this? Thanks, TristD.

  • @tristd11 Do you have the same problem with another browser..?! Isn't it your internet connection or the wifi connection..?! Google Chrome shouldn't be the freeze problem...

  • @tristd11 It adventially buffers the video for 100% or not...?!

  • @Randyvdmeer It doesn't happen to IE8, and my internet connection is fine. It must be Chrome, because flash is up-to-date, my connection is great and it doesn't happen to IE. And I does eventually get over the freeze, about 11 seconds in.
