Also, I agree with darkdaymaximus. The headroom is perfect throughout

Long shot! I almost bought Larry's old rig a few months ago. Someone had posted it for him on the forum

amazing shot, can you imagine the pressure on everyone not to screw up!! Its one of those shots where you swear there must have been cuts, then you watch it back. once again Amazing shot.

This movie is underrated. It's messy, to be sure. But it's still a pretty clever parody of Hitchcock's films and De Palm's own films.
-
This is the "twin brother" of the opening long shot from "The Bonfire of the vanities".

I didn't have a problem with the dutch shot; it was a one time thing for this scene, and it was actually cool for what is was.

Raising Cain was recorded and mixed in THX sound system theatre. The sound mix in this scene is nice and clear and ambient matrix surround sounds wicked on the JBL THX sound system.
-
Garrett Brown invented the Steadicam and was also hired for Return of the Jedi to film the crazy speederbike sequence.

look at technical, the headroom is perfect!
if the "dutching" is the action of filming while tilted i don't like that much. it somewhat takes the wiever's attention away from the actors to focus it on the weird angle the camera assumes. it's unnatural..

I agree. Other then the exceptional execution of the Steadicam, it is a weak shot. They did it just to have a long Steadicam shot. ie: the 2 male characters mime the female character behind her back & the contrived action of her going the wrong way are merely elements to try and bring something to an otherwise lame shot.
If I remember correctly Larry was just experimenting at the time and dutched the staircase portion of the shot to simply get all the actors in the shot.
poor direction
