NOTE: If anyone else likes the music, comment and let me know. I just listened to it for the first time since I posted the video and now think I should extend it into a full long song.

Still experimenting and learning with a Nikon P50. Onion growing in a glass. First part was one frame every 30 seconds (sped up in this video because the growth was so slow!!), then one frame per minute, one frame every ten minutes and then the best was one frame every 30 minutes. It takes a week to do 17 seconds of video at this rate!

The music is just me fooling around with some synthesizers.

  • Great music for this type of video... can I have a copy?

  • @gregdell042 The song is now available at cd baby and iTunes. search for "Scott from Canada" and the song is called Glowing Walls.

  • I like the music, very good, and it's very instructive that you showed what the different capture rates look like. I just got a Nikon P100, and have done a few time-lapse videos so far. It's too late to do a 1 frame per day of my garden, but maybe next year.

  • The onion did not grow... the water just evaporated a little bit pulling the onion plant further into the glass.

  • @MatrixiondotNet Heh, yeah I didn't really get into it at the time. It was more for the time-lapse than the hydroponics but I definitely want to get into that more at some point. Thanks for the info, it might get me to try some more soon!

  • @scott2eh Your root problem if you'll pardon the pun is that the water needs to be oxygenated, in hydroponics, the roots need to be supplied with oxygen or they will simply rot in the stagnant water, you could achieve this with an aquarium pump and an airstone, additionally, roots will die if exposed to light, the water will also fill with algae and compete with your plant for nutrients (assuming you're using some form of nutrient solution in your water.)

  • @anamneses28 Thanks. I'm releasing the song soon on the iTunes store and CD Baby. The onion went in the garbage. It didn't do so well after a while. I need to read up on hydroponics a bit more to make it work.

  • Great music! I enjoyed the video too. What did you do with the onion?

  • @tricastlgs lol

  • if your camera had broke, you would have been in a pickle
