Welcome to My Guide to Video Game History. In this episode we look at PC gaming of the 90's when a certain company called id software doomed the world with their games.

A huge greet and thanks to CuteFloor who kindly let me use lots of his video clips as I had a real problem recording these PC games myself. Check out his channel as he has some real freat old PC game footage than here. Also greets to the channel Balgorg who has done a wonderful compendium of almost every FPS game released in chronological order. This was an invaluable aid and well worth checking his channel out.

Finally greets and a huge thanks to Kreeboy411 who did a kind shout out for my channel and so encouraged many more people to take a look and subscribe.

Known errors:

At end of video I mention Digital Extreme and being better known for today for Bio Shock games. In actual fact they only did the PS3 conversion of Bio Shock 1 and the multiplayer game section for the sequel rather than the entire game as I implied.

  • Wow anagin another amazing episode. Dont know why Ive never watched these before? Loving it mate. I need to find some time to watch the rest! Packed to the brim with info too! ;o)

  • @interghost Thanks again... I really enjoyed this one as it made me play through many gems of yesteryear. I am currently working my way through Unreal whcih I picked up cheap on Steam in the Chrimbo Sale and I have forgotten how good that game is.

  • Great episode, so many brilliant games. I remember playing Unreal at the time and how everything else seemed to pale in comparison subsequently.

  • @CB33f Glad you enjoyed it matey. Yes i remember trying to get Unreal working back in the day but my humble PC wasnt really upto it. But coming to it again on a PC that can handle it and its fast becoming one of my Fave FPS games.

  • 17:07 Yeah Raven really are the dog's bollocks, I find it a bit of a coincidence that the first two Soldier Of Fortune games (developed by them) are brilliant and the third (without their input this time round) is slow and boring. They know exactly what makes a great, and most importantly, fun FPS.

  • @amigagames absolutely as mentioned Hexen is one of my favorite games with it really offering something new and unique.

  • That Heretic game was a lot different that I can recall playing 12-13 years ago? Is the oone used for this video a new version or a mod of it?

  • i thin decent was one of the fist games i ever played on a computer

  • Have just been putting some serious play time to the game Unreal Gold which I picked up cheap in the Steam Chrimbo sale.. God its such an awesome game.

  • As Amigagames says you can get quite a few of them from gog.com (Blake Stone, Duke, Descent, Unreal, Blood, Red Neck Rampage). Steam has all the ID games, The Unreal games and the Dark Forces games (which I bought in the Chrimbo Sale :-) ). Amazingly Command and Conquer is given away for free now by EA which is just fab.
