chess would be more comparable to football because each player only has specific needs in football like the pieces in chess.
if all five pieces were queens, then it'd be like basketball. the freedom to move any direction at any time.
using the same pieces on both ends to out think and outwork your opponet. that's how you can compare to basketball.
the plays in basketball are just as complicated as they are in football, just there are more players on at one time in football therefore there is more room for error
if u want to compare players to peices, you really can't in chess some peices are more valuable then others, basketball everyone is equal
