My stress-relief session before heading into work one morning :-) Piano is a Yamaha G3 that needs tuning. I lost time in the runs and screwed up a bit - one day I'll get it right. I'm always amazed at the quality of Keith's original playing, which is mindblowing (his rhythm and the colours he gets from the piano) especially moreso given it was an improvisation, plus he disliked the piano!

btw: The sound quality could be better, but this is my first upload and I'll need to experiment with the microphone position some more.

  • Very good! a bit too fast, if you play it slower you'll have more time for expressiveness.

Anyway I like your version !

  • @guitou7878 Thanks for your message. I agree wtih you - I played too fast here. I have recorded another version that is a bit better.

I really like your playing and I think you you play it very well with a jazzy feel and clear articulation, and the sound quality of your recording is also very good. I will leave a comment on your video too!

  • oublie le métronome, c'est pas une course ! tu joues bien mais c'est tout. Penses à faire accorder ton piano, parce que là ça craint grave.

  • You're right. It was a little fast, but the main thing I'm not happy about is the expressiveness of the melody and lack of the jazz feeling and rubato. I'll look at recording this again some time. It's my first time playing jazz... totally different genre for me.

  • Wow good job!!

How long did it take you to learn that piece?

  • Thanks. It took several months! I just play for fun, and being classically trained, I found the rhythms quite challenging - lots of slow practice.

  • nice! quite honestly, from what I ve heard on youtube, this is one of the best ones.

  • very good, really very good, not easy to create that " jarrett magic sound" but you gave a good approximation of it... go on to this way!

  • Very good job, but the thing that we can't forget is that all our rehearsals are made with a transcription of this piece while Keith Jarrett had it written all this in his head.

  • dude you need to upload more videos. don't worry about the sound quality because it sounds very good giving it's your first upload.

    way to go man

  • It blows my mind that something Keith Jarrett basically pulled out of his ass live on stage decades ago is now transcribed, studied, copied and basically worshipped by all of us. Now that's talent!

You played it well, but you obviously already know to watch the tempo. You're a really good reader and player. I can't believe this is just your hobby. You could certainly make some extra money on the side at bars and hotels. Why not give that a shot?

  • sei davvero bravissimo, complimentissimi...praticamente identica...

  • It is a genial, personal interpretation. And I do appreciate the speed you chose to play it with - it creates a specific climate and conveys different emotions than the original. This is a plus, cause it isn't mean to be a copy of Keith! :) You took his masterpiece and put a new soul in it by playing it according to the way you feel the music. And the jazzy feeling is outstanding. I am impressed!

  • Wow. I'm working on this piece right now, but those runs are just too much for me. Props to you for being able to get through those measures, and the whole piece.
