  • So they made it an extra two hours long, in order to bore us with Cigar-smoking Jackasses, Cigarette-sucking whores, and stupid Card Games? (oh, and speeding in a Ferrari and thereby endangering the mission that could save the future of humanity)

I'd much rather they concentrate on why bomb shelters wouldn't work, & the breakdown in the social order, than bore us with all the stupid 'human interest "and the Women they loved" shit. I mean, does every single film have to be about people in love?

  • @ddd1953 Agreed, however, that Shute's book, and the movie and miniseries have some technical flaws to them, but that's attributed to artistic license and in Shute's case, the limited knowledge we had in 1959 of radiation effects.

  • This is why i play poker online..........you don't have to listen to people bitch when they lose all their money!!!

  • @megaswenson because it would be a 30 min.documentary minus "extra 2 hours", not a movie,, most movies/ books include "human interest",that's real life as are cigars/ cigarettes, card games, sports cars, children, eating/ drinking, playing football, etc BTW this series DOES deal with breakdown of social order but the main thrust is how people face the idea of certain death, which is what all of us must one day. Why so insulting with" jackasses and whores "? Why watch if you don't like it?

  • "I hope a fucking elephant sits on your fat ass you cynical bastard" LOL

  • @soeffingwhat excellent comment.... it's not about nuclear annihilation, but about how people face certain death, as we all do, with grace and love....THreads and When the Wind Blows also address the same issues...

  • @megaswenson because that's what life is about

  • @ddd1953 The problem with that is that it's implied that the type of radiation has a long half-life. If the radiation were the type with a short half-life, it would have been back to manageable levels within a couple of weeks or perhaps a month and have never wiped out the entire Northern Hemisphere, let alone reached Australia. Radiation such as Cobalt-60, with a half-life of 5 years, would require 25-30 years before the area was inhabitable again.

  • @ddd1953 - Your plan would likely be easier said than done mate, probably impossible. And How big are these Caves? probably not big enough to hold 1000s of people,

  • @megaswenson - The point of this Film is about the overwhelming struggle to survive and try to find a way to get the Human Race to survive and the affort to try and keep normalcy going as much as possible and part of that is keeping in with those you Love. They can't all be about "wham, bam thank you mam" all action and nothing else. I think this Film (as well as Threads and When the Wind Blows) show perfectly the mortality of Human Struggle in the face of impossible odds.
