It all has to do with our founding document: Our rights are God-given, inalienable, and the govt may never take them away. But recall that among those God-given rights is the right to be an atheist.

The thing with Obama was that he was new to the scene, and Americans didn't know much about him. But we knew that this particular pastor was his "mentor," and his mentor held some fairly radical views.

So, as it the media's responsibility, he was asked about it. And he still won the election.

i am totally for the separation of church and state. however, there is a difference between that, and a separation of church and politician. b/c altho legislation should not be pursued through religion, we need to know our politicians religion/values since they will have our country in his hands

Why does the US still hold on to their christian faith? Is there no separation between state and church?

It feels like the rest of the western world has moved beyond religion and christianity but the US still clings on to this even letting it being a deciding force when electing presidents. It's just amazing to me.
