While in a rural McDonalds, I met Richard Layden by chance. He offered me sweet corn and all the veggies I could pick. I asked him what I could do in return thinking I could give him a computer lesson or help with something like program a cell phone or the usual things I am asked to do. He said without hesitation, can you put something on Ebay for me! I was so surprised. He said meet me at the farm I have some old equipment I want to sell or at least see what it is worth. My husband and I drove out to his farm and a new friendship has begun. I guess I am just so amazed that a talented and creative farmer and business man, such as Richard Layden immediately identifies with me and asks me to do something that I can do for him, that he cannot do for himself or he does not want to do, which makes sense. In meeting Richard my husband and I have unearthed a mutual desire of cross learning with him. As you can see from this video, he loves to teach and show us so many things about his expertise and we in turn will help him. This guy is a genius and his name can be found as recipient of various Farm Bureau awards in the Farm Idea Exchange competitions held annually. Search Richard Layden at http://www.fb.org. Richard is a fascinating and highly respected man throughout the farming industry. We are fortunate to have met him. Of course, most important of all, he grows awesome sweet corn too!

    Thanks,

  • You will find people like Richard all through the country ! Farm folks are usually eager to show others what they do . We need more interaction between farmers and non-farmers . People need to know more about their food and where it comes from . Keith, southern Ontario, Canada

  • @Crippler1881 Keith, so glad you agree. I think it is a huge need. If you are into video you can just go to the rural McDonalds and find tons of farmers hanging out drinking coffee on the rainy days. That is how I met Richard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We can start a website called FarmersIntervieweddotcom!

  • Not only have I heard there are people like Richard - I've known him all my life. Being as old as dirt can help to know the ol timers. ...Art Simpson formerly from Hoopeston now in La Porte Indiana.
