I have been doing them slightly differently which I can share too.
You accordian-fold a long strip of paper or fabric, and then bring the two ends together and glue it to a small circle to make it lay flat - in that way you avoid the center seam created here. Either way it takes about the same time I guess.

@tubeyoumaster1 you can try a 12 inch piece. i don't suggest using thick cardstock to try this method, it's too thick and hard to manipulate. try with a thinner paper, i have yet to try this. let me know how it turns out =).
