Hey everybody! Here are pictures from my trip on March 20, 2009 to Darley, Hurricane Hall, Three Chimneys, and Ashford. Here are some fun stories.
-Hard Spun and Rockport Harbor are in paddocks side by side. Spun always wants to race Rocky, and Rocky will start to race him but get tired after about 30 feet and say, "You win."
-Once, when Any Given Saturday had only been at Darley a little while, he hauled off and leapt over his fence and went back to the barn. They told us if he doesn't make it as a good stud, he should be a show jumper. (He'd be an awesome jumper because that fence was high and he jumped it with no training!)
-Holy Bull was acting wild and crazy, and snorting and grunting like a little pig. That old 18-year-old horse is a major showoff!
-Henny Hughes is the biggest sweetheart ever. He's pretty much my best buddy at Darley.
-If you get the chance, visit Hurricane Hall. They love visitors, and they went to all the trouble to braid their studs' manes just for my family, as we were the only ones that visited this week. They are awesome.
-Teuflesberg has a big metal rod in his left front leg from his injury in the Phoenix. He can't bend that ankle. But he's perfectly sound on it.
-We got to check up on Sky Mesa at 3 Chimneys and he's recovering really well from his recent colic surgery (you can see he's wearing a weird blue contraption in this video. It's to hold his stitches in.)
-Big Brown really put on a show for us at 3 Chimneys. He can buck like a rodeo horse!
-At Ashford, we got to ask questions about Rags' newborn baby, and they said she's a brat just like her mother. XD
-Also at Ashford, we noticed that Tale of the Cat is the only horse with a heated stall. That's because he refuses to wear a blanket.
Thanks for watching! You guys should all go visit some stud farms because they are awesome and most of them are free! :D

  • Bernadini looks quite showy @ 3:08 & street sense has 2 b the best lookin horse i'v seen, EVER!!

  • Bernie is a definate showoff, but why wouldn't he be because he knows how gorgeous he is! :) I wish I could have gotten closer to Street Sense but he was way over away from the rest of the boys where we had to pull the car over just to get that one picture of him. But he was super handsome! Thanks for watching! :D

  • Man it's been a while since i've seen Henny Hughes, he was fast! Did they say anything about why Teuflesberg hasn't been bred yet? I've seen pics of Giant's Riches, she looks JUST like her mom!

  • I'm not sure why Teuflesberg hasn't been bred yet. Maybe his first year at stud, his injury was still playing up and he couldn't cover mares. Maybe his first foals will be on the ground this year. :) Thanks for watching and yes Rags' daughter is adorable judging from pics! :D

  • Thanks for sharing with us pics and videos from your trip!! :-) It is great to see all these wonderful horses. I loved your video ...especially seeing Big Brown having so much fun, bucking and all, in his paddock!

  • Thanks buggamalone. I think seeing Brownie playing was one of my favorite parts of the whole trip. He is definately enjoying the life of a stud. :)

  • what kind of horse are u looking for and what area i have a couple studs u might like if u were looking to breed your mare (mares)

  • Seggymom, I drove through Lexington and saw all of the farms on one main road there - absolutely amazing. Bernardini is one of my favorite horses of all time and your tour was a great view of many great champions! I was very surprised that Henny was so friendly, as he seemed to be a serious sprinter in his day.

  • What a great video! Thanks for posting it.

  • does Darley allow public tours?

were headed down to kentucky in a few weeks and this is one farm i really dont want to miss!!

  • good to see these great stallions standing in australia especially street cry super stallion his proginy are outstanding and leading sire in australia well done darly

  • Superb video, thanks for sharing! I love Darley, they are fantastic. Great stallions, beautiful facilities. Nice to see all of the stallions in their 'luxury homes'.

  • sry to hear THAT :(

  • He has been bred. His first crop comes out this year in sales. this year he bred a full list of mares and managed to get 35 of them in foal. Now he has been sent to florida. And still had to bring the mares back to him 3 or 4 times because he didn't get them in foal. I work on a farm that has tried to breed 7 mares last year and only got 2 in foal and this year tried to breed 3 and didn't get in foal. my boss owns shares in him and is now worth nothing.
