The last time the government get involved with subsidizing "renewable and alternative energy" was propping up ethanol, which turned out to be a huge debacle and raised the price of corn and food products dramatically in the US and elsewhere. Someone should tell Mr. Schauer that most of these alternatives fail in the market, that's why they have to be subsidized. Which of course, always winds up very, very expensive.
