Avatar is like Sarah Silverman, looks pretty but is not original in the slightest.
Plus, is it just me or does Sam Worthington look and play the same part in every film that he is in? Clash of the Titans, Terminator Salvation etc. I also hate movies that force the whole "Mankind are all greedy and evil bastards" plot thread down our throat. I'd give it a matinee.

@123allrock then they should have just released the behind the scenes rather than the movie.

Terminator 2 is definetely superior to Avatar. Better villain, more original story, more INTRUIGING story, for that matter, more satisfying climax, better characters, just better everything. I mean, Avatar is good to see in 3D, but that's really all I can say about it. The effects are sensational, but effects aren't everything. I don't go and watch a movie to admire the designs, I go watch a movie TO WATCH A MOVIE. Like I said, Avatar seemed like an over-budget 3D show.

Do you think this is no where near Aliens and Terminator 1 & 2 when it comes to Cameron films?

ehh if youe seen anything on devinatart the world in Avatar is nothing special

@ATENakaATON but just so it's understood I didn't actually like Transformers, I don't like style over substance movies with big dumb loud plots, but I wasn't mad at Transformers either because I didn't feel like it was trying to cheat me by convincing me it was something smart/serious when it wasn't Avatar plot wise didn't deliver what it promised by implying it was an intelligent adult epic which left me feeling ripped off, if I had known how cartoony it was I wouldn't have seen it

@Bobzeaux The problem with Avatar's plot isn't a lack of twists, it's the lack of plot, it uses convenient plot devices and shameless stereotypes to force the story along in a predictable manner and the world/setting is an unrealistic impossible fantasy, making Avatar hard to take serious, yet the execution of the tone demands /pigeon-holds it to being serious, which is a poor mix. Transformers is a shallow silly Giant-Robo movie and revels in it, so it can get away with being dumb

I'm sorry, but a movie having a plot that doesn't offer too many twists is NOT the same thing as a movie that has so little respect for its audience's intelligence that it doesn't even attempt to be consistent with its own nonsense.
This is just ridiculous... All the hate that this movie gets for having great visuals that allegedly don't make up for its all-too-familiar plot, but the Transformers movies which gleefully don't give a crap about their own stories? We're supposed to brush that off because of THEIR awesome visuals, apparently. ;(

Avatars story may be generic , but look into what runs under it and the research that went into the film and you find a huge amount of work went into presenting the cultural and spiritual conections that are quite real yet running under "a fantasy shell" people relate to the films story because inside we have "heard it before" if you have ever done research on the how indigenous peoples "see" the world you would understand the film does a great job of showing this example
in a very clever way.
