"I'll Stand By You" is a song that is featured in the season one episode Ballad. It's sung by Finn Hudson when Kurt is trying to help him deal with teenage pregnancy and parental responsibility by singing a ballad about it. He tells Finn to imagine singing to his unborn daughter sitting in the auditorium and starts the song on the piano for Finn. Finn ends up singing to a sonogram at home and it works; however, his mom sees him and suspects something is up. His mom asks if Quinn is pregnant and Finn breaks down in front of her. The song has a double meaning; while Finn wants to comfort his unborn daughter, his mom unquestioningly comforts him in his time of need. It was originally sung by Chrissy Hynde of The Pretenders in 1994.
