ATSIC (the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission), the peak Indigenous representative body, was dismantled by the Australian Government in 2005.

In 2011, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across Australia were asked to reflect on ATSIC's closure.
