here's a thought if the african roots in your culture are so degenerate, stop using it
stop playing salsa ( slave music by african and tainos who were oppressed). stop eating certain african-taino foods, stop rapping in spanish over jamaican music ( african music about the motherland) and start playing music from spain, and eating foods from spain and don't forget to dress like the people of spain. bet you'll miss the african influence then.

People, please read A Short Account of the Destruction of the Indies, by Bartolome De Las Casas. This book discusses by first hand account what the Spanish were doing to the Arawak (i.e. indigenous population) or Taino people of the Caribbean. This was is account of what he saw and its pretty stark historical account of what the Spanish did.

@AfroBoriquen I am not Afro-Boricua but African-USA. IIn words of Ismael Rivera, I gots to say, "Ecuaje". I work at a clinic where most of the staff is "hispanic" and Spanish-speaking and they can never handle any mention of slavery that happened. One person of Puerto Rican decscent who knew nothing about Ismael Rivera tried to say that even though she did not have afro-hair most of her ancestors were enslaved Africans and because of that she should get becas pa' los afro-americanos y los latino

Its sad that they teach all puerto ricans living in the territory that they all are part of three races, when it is no different then the US. It looks like many puerto ricans from the states need to take a trip to Loiza, Puerto Rico, and learn what everything every one loves about being a boricua comes from there, they also need to go to places like the district of choco in colombia and other parts of latin America.

@GayBlkWorld absolutely the spanish fort is still there in vera cruz where the slaves were brought in and many don't know that there were black conquistidors who came over as well black people who were immersed in spanish culture language and all who helped to establish the slave trade in mejico. many de los morenos viven en mejico hoy along the costal regions etc and many look just like american blacks here in the states. great points papito!

@boricuamovement You fool, no one said Boricua came from any where other than the Tainos. And stop the bullshit, no one is claiming Boricua or Puerto Rico in the name of Africans. Damn , how many times must I say it? I'm INCLUDING african ancestry IN WITH the people and culture of Puerto Rico. And what does a Boricua look like? See you prove my point. Did Roberto Clemente look like a Boricua? Did Ismael Rivera look like a Boricua? Does Tego Calderone look like a boricua?

@boricuamovement Not a problem, you can be tainocentric, but your comments before seem more Eurospanish centric and racist. Broaden your out look .

Not all Puerto Ricans have African influence. Some have African and European backgrounds.
Whats pisses me off is that Blacks are aways complaining about something. Stop complaining!
I like how he rattles off the percent of influence......right? How do you know that the food has African influence? Just because u say it does....doesnt make it true!
I am Puerto Rican and I am proud of my African and European Background but I dont need u to tell me that.

@ricoumc062904 No, Because Historians say so. And good for you. But look at the comments and see many people were surprised at this information , others side they were happy that some one finally let it known.
