Follows Martin Strel as he attempts to cover (3,273 miles(5268 kilometers)) of the Amazon River in what is being billed as the world's longest swim.

Martin Strel (born 1 October 1954) is a Slovenian long-distance swimmer. Strel holds successive Guinness World Records:

-In 2000, he swam the Danube River (3004 kilometers (1,866 mi)) in 58 days.
-In 2002, he swam the entire Mississippi River (3,797 kilometers (2,359 mi)) in 68 days.
-In 2003, he swam the Argentine Paraná River (3,998 kilometers (2,484 mi)).
-On 10 June 2004, Martin started swimming down the Yangtze River (4,003 kilometres (2,487 mi), the longest river in Asia, the third longest in the world) in China. He reached Shanghai in 40 days on 30 July 2004, one day before planned.

-He swam the Amazon River, commencing on 1 February 2007, finishing 66 days later on April 7, 2007. This was a record-breaking distance of 5,268 kilometers (3,273 mi), longer than the width of the Atlantic Ocean.

His motto is "swimming for peace, friendship and clean waters."

  • @thecupdidit and it's important for diet, to allow for energy supllementation over long distances

  • @cyatuesday Most endurance swimmers have higher body fat, especially noticable on girls as their body reacts to the cold and stores excess fat to protect the vital organs. It creates bouyoncy in the water like a wetsuit pushing you up and creating insulation. The alcohol probably helps him as well to keep warm and promote circulation as well as provide pain relief -cheaply :D.
