San Francisco Bay Area band NightFire, which, in addition to composer/guitarist Harvey Mandel (for this tune, Baby Batter) and Freddie Roulette, includes veteran musicians Michael Borbridge on drums, Eugene Huggins on harmonica and vocals, and Michael Warren (formerly with Merl Saunders and The Rainforest Band) on bass. Also appearing is Jose Najera on conga and percussion.
Baby Batter originally appeared on the Janus label as an LP of solo work from Harvey around 1971. At one time I owned a copy (after my local record store suggested I check it out) . . .of that LP which featured a griddle with pancake batter spelling the title tune on the cover. The reissue/remaster (CD) released by BGO (Beat Goes ON) has a new surreal styled cover full of babies and symbolism.
Thanks to Carey, baby Otto, and Marty for the invitation to Descanso Gardens, La Canada, Flintridge, CA., just up the 2 Freeway from Glendale. I made up a slide show of our trip that day and Harvey's tune just seemed to fit. The synchronization is by permission with the Snake Crew.
I can't make a slide show from iPhoto that will look ok after processed at you tube. If I import the photos directly into final cut express I can remedy the problem but it takes me a lot longer to do all the groovy special transitions and 'ken burns' effects like moving photos - you can see the difference at the end with the original Janus LP cover which was imported directly into final cut without stopping at iPhoto first. So bear with me and this vid will improve . . . down the road a bit.
Thanks. Glad to help out.
