On an unknown engien dyno somewhere, a poor gearhead or racer's big block decided to lose it's lunch on the bottom end with spectacular results. For those with weak stomachs, I suggest you not watch!

You figure, loud dyno cell, the operators are outside the room, with the engine spinning at high RPM, it would've been very difficult to stop. Being around stuff liek this before, what seems like a long time on video is a blink of an eye in the moment.

i'm guessing the engine dyno failed. Keep your eye on the back of the engine that is the hydrallic pressure plate pressing on the fly wheel to keep the engine under load. When that failed the engine over ran itself and threw a rod.

i agree with a failure test. also appears to be a commercial diesel engine. there are torque sensors on all four engine mounts.

Maybe this is some sort of engine failure testing? It looks like they purposely overloaded the engine to see what would fail. You can tell the engine had a sudden heavy load put on it. If the dyno had failed, it would abort and not continue full throttle with full load...and the operators would have pulled the throttle back, there was plenty of time.
