  • Leos Carax is illustrating in this movie. Another example to support this point can been seen in the flower which he eats. The flower was a symbol for the empire family pre WW2. The character merde throwing of bombs can be a symbol of the Nanking killing in the war against China.

  • @Dimitkofu It's not just about some guy in a sewer i Tokyo, Japan. The title "Merde" as you may know is French for shit. The reason why he lives in the sewers is to symbolize where the japanese washed out there collective memories of their WW2. Japan, like many other contries, have a rich and bloody history in regards to warcrimes. And it is this history, which has been whiped from japanese history, which
