This is a full playthrough of the Enhanced version of King's Quest VI for Windows 3.1.

The Enhanced version of King's Quest VI utilizes a 640x480 resolution, twice that of the 320x240 resolution in the DOS version. The main improvements over the DOS version are smooth, better drawn images of the icon bar, inventory items, and closeups on the characters faces.

For better quality, add "&fmt=18" to the end of the URL.

The music in this playthrough comes directly from the King's Quest VI Soundtrack, and therefore sounds much better than the basic MIDI output on most computers.

This is an exhaustive exploration of the game, rather than a direct walkthrough. During my first visit to each screen, I spend much time clicking the various commands all over the screen. However, these videos actually show a very efficient solution as far as traveling is concerned. For example, I use the magic map only 13 times, which is the minimum number required to get the top score.

The videos were uploaded one per day starting with Part 7, ending on December 31, 2008.

  • Shadyparadox, you were probably fuming with anger that the beggar would dare interrupt your analysis of the landscape, before it was time for dialogue. ;-)

  • Actually, the problem I was having was that he would start talking and I would interrupt HIM, which wasn't what I wanted.

Again, if this is too slow for you, you can always skip ahead. I think the exploratory approach works particularly well in certain parts, such as 16, 27, and 36.

  • shadyparadox, do you know if the King's Quest Collection released in 2006 has the enhanced music as well? I always played the DOS version and I love how much richer it is here. I recently purchased the Collection as a gift so I was wondering if the quality of the music would be as high as yours. :)

  • Actually, I just downloaded the soundtrack from Quest Studios, and have edited it into the videos. It wasn't playing when I was recording.

As for best in-game music quality, it really doesn't matter which version you have (even though the Collection will have the older portraits).

What really determines your in-game music is your settings in the configuration file. While it won't give you soundtrack quality, setting the music to GENMIDI.DRV instead of ADL.DRV will improve it somewhat.

  • Aww...you missed my favorite quote!

When outside the library & Pawn shop, if you use the talk command on the lower left corner (that basket) Alexander says something.

...maybe you can add it in a later part if you want..?

  • Do you mean when he says, "Hello! Is anyone here?"

I did mean to add that in, and I did add it in a later part, if that is indeed what you were talking about.

  • I really loved the narrator in King's Quest 6, he's always so intense and so involved with the current emotion of the story (like the way he reads the love poetry).

  • " And burn a perfectly good hand? " Hahahaha!! I wish new age games had this much effort put into them.....

  • Just another superflous personal memory of this game: legend has it when my brother and I were playing this game, we were stuck on this island (IOTC) for 6 months trying to figure out how to get off the island. And then another few months later, we were stuck going around the islands trying to get to the Isle of Mists another 6 months. It is what made us scared to death in the catacombs and pissing in our pants when we went back into the castle.

  • lol, why good princesses like bad wizards.

  • why not new lamps for old ???

  • OLD LAMPS FOR NEW

  • Very nice catching the villager peeking out. Always spent some time trying to catch that person.

  • Such great memories of games like this, shivers, myst, etc. Why can't they make modern games as good?

  • Must have taken forever to record/program all the narrations or actions in this game.

  • Stereotyping a math book as boring! What a disgrace!

  • @Bryan1108 Nope, that WAS the original KQII. There was a genie.
