This ad from Patagonia truly depicts the seemingly worthless number of climbing vocabulary words. Anyone who knows what the moves mean will know that what he describes is not actually possible.

  • a figure four is an ice climbing move, used in glacier caves when the ice is too steep to keep toe spikes in. i cant think of a time when it would be a good move on rock, though i have done it to demonstrate to a class before.

  • you use figure fours in climbing too, rarely, only if your crazy, and on overhangs usually
