These cows got really excited about the new patch of grass they were going to graze on. They were in a race to get the clover, its their favorite treat.
@louisgjordan2 grass dosent grow all year around, most grazing herds are lucky to graze 9 months a year, in my operation i graze from march first till december first and that is rare, in the other 3 months i have a large bedded barn with corn silage and grain, and free choice hay, grazing 100% of the time is unrealistic in most areas, however when i am grazing 80-85% of my dry matter is from grass. also i am NOT organic, i graze because i want to not because i have to follow a policy.
That seems impressive until you realize their policy requires that the milk producing cows be out on the pastures only 120 days out of the year. What are they eating the rest of the time? organic soy, & corn feed? Is that a good policy? I do not know, but I would like 100% non-corn, non-soy, non-grain based raw milk. Hay, grass, oats, that's OK w/ me, 100%. Feed is everything w/ cow's milk, that and unheated, fresh.
