Please see the lyrics posted below. Written by Nashville based songwriters Brett Jones & the late Tydus Alley in the early 1990's - the song Cowboy Thinker and this video are a tribute to the unforgetable American icon, Will Rogers.
For the YouTube audience to be able hear this rough demo of Cowboy Thinker, is a rare glimpse into what a guitar/vocal music publisher's demo sounded like, out of Nashville in the early 1990's.
There was no over produced demo, because the song was not deemed worthy at the time, by my co-publisher, of a full blown demo with added instrumentation and backup vocals.
However, being Tydus Alley's publisher at the time, I plugged this song hoping to get it cut or used in a movie about Will Rogers with no success to date.
Not having success with my song plugging, does not mean that I don't believe in the song, because I very much believe in this song. I made this video to help show anyone viewing that the song is, indeed worthy of being considered for use in some type of commercial capacity.
If you or anyone you know are interested in this song for any type of production or public performance, please contact me through the YouTube message system before using the song in any capacity.
Guitar, Vocals: Brett Jones
Cowboy Thinker, (Lyrics) ©
Out of Oklahoma during the dustbowl '30s
A cowboy roped the hearts
Of my grandpa's generation
And gathered round the radio, he wove them together
With a common thread of his homespun humor
(Chorus)
He was a cowboy thinker and a social dreamer
He said he never met a man that he didn't like
Straight up in the saddle boys nothing else matters
Cause everybody's equal in the eyes of a cowboy thinker
(Verse)
They say his stories would strip you to the meat of your soul
Where your color and your money don't matter anymore
Somewhere in the laughter is where they discovered
That underneath it all we're all sisters and brothers
(Chorus)
He was a cowboy thinker and a social dreamer
Said he never met a man that he didn't like
Straight up in the saddle boys nothing else matters
Cause everybody's equal in the eyes of a cowboy thinker
(Bridge)
If you could still tune in those old radio waves
You'd hear the simple truth in the things that he said
(Modified Chorus)
He was a cowboy thinker and a social dreamer
He said he never met a man that he didn't like
Straight up in the saddle boys nothing else matters
Cause everybody's equal in the eyes of a cowboy thinker
He was a cowboy thinker

We native americans are proud of our brother Will Rogers. He was proud of his Cherokee heritage above all. He should have been a president, he sure was heads above any president. The civilized world mourned his passing.

I always liked Will Rogers but far more so after visiting the Will Rogers museum in Pryor OK. His was the secondest biggest funeral in US history, save Abraham Lincoln. I can be weary of tributes but I really like this one. Nice song, good production, fine video.

I know what you mean about tributes Sea. I tried to produce this one to have some substance besides just photos of Will Rogers. Of course, having the song Cowboy Thinker and its story helped tremendously. Thanks so much for your comment!

I am actually the owner of a low budget production company... we are nothing right now, but we are making money. My hopes are to make a made for T.V. movie in the near future... I would love to do it on Will Rogers. He is my hero. The only man in history that made it big for being himself. I love this song, and would love to share it with my production crew. I am, however, active military and it will be a while before I have the time to do much...
God bless Will Rogers

Sooner, thank you for your comment. Congrats on the production company. Very best wishes to you with making it successful.
I'm very proud of you at your age to know who Will Rogers is - he was a true American original who left before his time.
If you ever find you need the song, just let me know, I'll be right here.
Thank you again!
