Okay there is a faster better way doing this one incase anyone whos just starting out in the game is trying to get it but your going to have to wait a while untill you get a flying mount, just an ordinary one will do. Once your in the portal stand near the entrance/exit near the image of archmage Xylem and get the flier out a quickly as possible. Now you wil be able to see most of the guys coming at you but there will be one on the let side so keep your hand on the flying button.
