I liked everything except the part where what's-her-name squinched up her face like she smelled something bad when referring to the "hippie cult". Then she was all happy-fluffy-bunnies again when she left that House of No Good and got back to talking about the "mainstream' people. Hm...maybe I don't want to be mainstream. I think I wanna make what's-her-name's face squinch up, hee hee hee...

Many reasons to build something like this besides going "green".
Independence from conventional systems alone gives you a step up from city dwelling. If your source of food, fuel and water were interrupted for 30 days, what would your family do? Everyone thinks of things of an apocalyptic nature when he cause could be entirely mundane. Storms, earthquakes, even a power outage for a week would prove difficult. We think investing is preparing but you cannot eat money.

hippy cult???
How about culture; and the best to arise in a very long time.
i think "being green" isn't fully accomplished till you live in one of those or similar. and who knows, maybe you attain even higher levels of green when you let go and become one of the dreaded cult hippies :^)
