This is my mag light joule thief battery replacement. This is running with a single AA battery and a standard Joule Thief with a strong neodymium magnet attached to the primary toroid. Burning through the darkness!

I am trying to get some specs for the perfect toroid for a JT Circuit... I am going to have some machine wound... Please contribute if you can...

  • hi there, I got a trade for ya. Show a video of how you made the tube that goes into your mag lite, and I'm giving you this link to a video that shows how to lower your ma draw and not need a thoroid.

    It may get rid of your humming problem also.

    I would like to see your video of the tube because I cannot think of how to make the ends to touch the connectors of the battery.

    I agree with what Jeanna has posted. If you tune your toroid to the right freq. for your circuit, you will not need the magnet at all. Also, if your circuit is running well, your run-time should increase as your amp draw should go down. You can run your light for "free" when your friends all give you their "dead" AA batteries that they would have tossed out. i really like your pvc holder idea, very well done.

    (I believe) the reason the magnet works as CGnarler said is because the frequency goes up a lot so that dimming thing cannot happen.

    One twarning here is that the magnet can exhaust the transistor.

    It does not seem to ruin a transistor permanently in my experience,, but it makes it really bad until it can relax some of the magnetization. So, shield it, or tune the toroid to a higher frequency. You might want a smaller toroid for this. a 1/2 inch is really good for what you are doing.
