My first multitrack -- Eric Whitacre's "Lux Aurumque" for SATB voices.

I was inspired to put this together (read: I got carried away!) after recording tracks for the Eric Whitacre Virtual Choir ( http://www.youtube.com/EricWhitacresVrtlChr ).

In lieu of submitting a single track, I humbly offer this mix as my Eric Whitacre Scholarship application. I believe it embodies the ideals of passion, musicality, and strong singing.

THE SINGING:
I sight-read and sang all the parts on this recording. These are all individual single-takes, imperfect as they are. I am by no means a trained choralist, although I have sung, arranged, and directed choirs and a cappella groups for many years.

The guide track video used to synchronize the performance is courtesy of the Virtual Choir's Lux Aurumque project, at the above link.

THE AUDIO:
The audio was captured from a Røde NT1-A condenser, handheld.

The mix is a Garageband special. The only edits I made were setting volume levels, adding slight EQ, and throwing in some reverb. No pitch correction or quantization.

THE VIDEO:
The video was shot on my iMac built-in iSight camera, on location in beautiful Murray Hill, NYC, NY. ;) The video was "multitracked" on Final Cut Pro. I've color-shaded the dark tones of each "cell" to indicate the voice part sung:

Center (no color correction): Soprano 1 descant.
Red: Soprano 2 and 3.
Yellow: Alto 1 and 2.
Green: Tenor 1 and 2.
Blue: Bass 1 and 2.

Enjoy!

  • interesting... I would just recommend learning a little more about Latin diction and you'll be set.

  • heh... i know, my diction is all over the place! the "a's" and "oo's" aren't too pure. the soft "g" in "angeli" is intentional. and "modo" sounds like "wodo!" one step at a time, right?

  • Wow... this is very impressive! :D

    Well done! :)

  • Glad you like it. My low C# isn't as good as yours, but it does the job, eh? :)

  • Thanks, both of you!
