Professor Erica Crespi and her URSI fellows are conducting experiments to investigate how nutritive condition affects the way amphibians react to stress during the early stages of larval development. We know that nutritive condition influences how animals (including humans) respond to environmental stressors, such as predators and disease. However, surprisingly little is known about the mechanisms that link nutritive condition to the growth and development of physiological systems, especially during the earliest phases of development.
