I feel sorry for Russia for working so hard on her technologies (airplanes, rocket, nuclear..etc) ..then just to see them sold or stolen by the Chinese.
Without Russia's, China won't be able to produce any mig, sukhoi, fly to orbit, build nuclear plant..
Look, everyone. Here's the deal. Both the U.S. and Russia spend about 4.5% of their GDP on military. The difference is this: The GDP of Russia is about 1 trillion USD. The GDP of the U.S. is about 14 trillion USD. The United States has the best fighter jet in the world because they can afford it. Russia can barely afford to develop, much less produce a generation 5 fighter. For instance, the first batch of PAK FA fighters will be built withOUT the gen 5 engines, to save money.
@CCCP1USSR Yes, I understand why they're swept forward. The issue with forward swept wings is that they twist dramatically in high AOA maneuvers. You would have to set electronic limits on the jet's maneuvers to prevent the pilot from accidentally ripping the wings off the jet.
@yakfitguy Obama didn't kill the F-22, Bob Gates did. He was Bush's man. Reality is, the F-22 is too expensive and has too many problems with its radar signature in bad weather. It needs improvement. It was pushed by greedy defense industry clowns and oversold. Once evaluated operationally, in the context of 2 wars, costing over $900B a year, the DOD killed it. Good weapon for 20 years from now, but not now. It's impressive, but it's an Edsel. F-35 is good too, but too expensive right now.
@yakfitguy I know the F-22 got killed. Which is too bad, Obama needs to get his head out of his ass, (opinion.) If the f-35 gets canceled too, then that would be bull shit. The f-15/f-18 are good, but they won't last forever.
@Underoathalex12 F-22 is killed and now the F-35 may also be killed. That leaves the US and it's allies with a small number of Gen4 aircraft also. Reality, these fighters are crazy expensive.

@Maxables note the air 'cuts' off the sides. the jets reverse wings are meant to slice through air, and their shape adds remarkable manuevarability

So... How do they keep the wings from shearing off in high load turns?
