The reason the soldiers are there is because the people we ripping down or dammaging the security fence that Israel set up back in 2006 I believe. The fence has since been moved further towards the Israeli boarder. this was done back in 2010 as a gift to non violent demonstrations along the boarder. Israel is willing to negotiate, just as long the Palestinians are willing to negotiate peacefully.

I think the real story here is the restraint of the Israeli soldiers. You could see that the girl was scared; she was relying on the decency of the Israelis. If a protester tried that in an Arab country they'd be shot on the spot. Also, how many countries would actually allow foreign journalists into such a disputed area to film and broadcast such a thing?
