@sonestafarms What would I look for in a horse that would/could be a jumper??
-
@GothicTrioOfEdwards The color is the same, the difference is that Knaps are more like baroque/Iberian/warmblood (through there are some sporthorse-y types being bred now) where appaloosas are more stock horse, like quarter horses. In general the Knaps have finer legs and a lean muscle look instead of being very thick, stocky, and stout

Do you know if the knabstuppers mares are good dressage horses or eventers

yay Knabstruppers! i live in denmark (where they originaly came from) and i've visited the place where the first knabstrupper was born :D it's amazing to know the story from the very beginning :o But the sad thing is, that there's almost no pure breed knabstruppers anymore, and almost no pure in denmark :( but they do exist! yay!

to everyone that would like to see a good knabstrup, type in knabstrupper stallion deckhengst upal von.
hes not mine but i think hes amazing
LIke with any breed, you must look at the individual horse to decide if it will be suited to your chosen discipline. But, yes, there are quite a lot of Knabstrupper mares that I have seen that I think would make excellent dressage and event horses.

Only the spots/coloring is the same. Comes from the same distant ancestors.

I'm moving back to the US looking for a baroque type horse to replace my lusitano. A friend had a great gelding schooled in the Branderup method that had a good build for this! I kept my eye on this breed for 7 years in Germany and never saw an even fair looking one for sale all this time. The good ones were all snapped up! Glad to hear they are in the US. Too bad it will be many years still before the are enough that the average person can afford one...along with most Iberians. :-( Nice breed!

There are some nice ones here and the breeders here are taking great care to breed good sporthorse and baroque types.

There are some lovely Knabstruppers in the U.S. these days. I'm sorry you seem to have seen only the bad ones. But do remember that there are bad examples of every breed in all countries. I'm sure you have also seen poor Knabstruppers in Europe as well!
