Using a large circle to teach the beginnings of trotting on the lunge. This is part of a SERIES on lunging so the complete playlist can be viewed here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmAAtaCcDo0&feature=PlayList&p=F9A7FE7...
At this point, the horse knows the voice commands of whoa and walk. She understands the movement of my position around here and that she is to keep pace as well as a certain distance.
Here I start increasing the distance and ask for her to move in a large circle around me, and start introducing the trot command. It's best that a horse stay in a gait at LEAST 3-4 strides before being asked to change the gait - this improves the ability of the horse to use his body correctly.
