This is what it sounds and looks like when you try to start a Ford 6.0L with a bad or dying FICM. Outside temp was 46*F. FICM was replaced under the 100K mi warranty and it runs like a champ again!

Please refrain from any negative comments about Ford. Grow up.

  • Was the FICM the only item that was replaced?

  • @KC0TLV yes.

  • Mine sounds normal but wont fire up. Keeps cranking. I was driving and suddenly dropped to idle, and wouldn't respond. Then it wouldn't start. Feels bad man...

  • @DunnJH4 That sounds like your HPOP has died. Unfortunately this relatively cheap part is expensive to replace.

  • hey when u out those mirrors on do they powerslide out and in and fold in and out as well or do u have to do that manually

  • I have the manual model. The power fold and telscoping were way too much money.

  • It wont run like a champ for long Ford has not resolved problem FICM Guy

  • DUDE same exact problem with my 2004 F-250 6.0. Luckily, I just bought it 5 days ago so I'm getting it fixed for free by the dealer.

  • @F250PSD Thanks, because I've got the same deal on my 2005... thanks for posting this - a great help in my diagnostics!

  • @MegaDiesel59 Can you check into the name of that sensor? lol I have had my FICM checked several times, new bats, new alt(230amp), AND checked for dirty injectors. I'm getting sick of this trial and error crap. haha

  • i am a certified master mechsanic and spechialize in ford e seireis i have replaced many f.i.c.m.'s and one can be diagnosed by looking at the ficm voltage on a scan tool there are three voltage redings two are batarie voltage the one to look closly at is the 48 volt value it should be at least 48 volts on a bad ficm you will see voltage in the 30 ies . fact !

  • I've worked on several 6.0's and including mine a lot lol but I never see the ficm go out it usually comes down to the high pressure oil pump on the low side of the pump that controls the idling of the engine so it regulates the rpm's at idle it goes out and you don't have in low side pressure to start it , how I found out was start it off of ether and hammer on the peddle but once I dropped it down below 1500 rpm it would die, I can't think of the name of the censor though

  • It seems to me I heard that one of the modules was bad, heck it maybe the whole computer that engine sounds like it wants to start, but i bet you anything its the computer.

  • My 05, 6.0 was doing the exact same thing. It started after about 30 mins.....I took it straight to the dealer once it cranked and had it looked at. Turned out to be the ficm and lotsa green ones. It just sucks that one spends so much money in doing all the PM's and using all Motorcraft parts and this crap still happens. I'm not too happy with the number of times my work truck has had to be in for repairs.
