CRUISING ON A JONAS BROTHERS LOVE STORY SEQUEL chp 55

[The Jonas family, Sheryll, and Sam stayed in their home in LA after Nick was released from the hospital. Two weeks after Nick was out, Sam and Kevin wanted to start shopping for the coming baby. Joe, Nick and Sheryll came along]
JOE: I was thinking. If the baby is a girl, you could name it Sampriti. It means real love. Get it? Sam pretty.
NICK: Whoa.
JOE: [Smiling] Great name, huh?
NICK: No. You were thinking.
[Joe turned around to punch Nick, who was sitting next to Sheryll in the car]
KEVIN: Sampriti? That's an unusual name.
SAM: As flattered as I am, I wouldn't do that to my baby.
SHERYLL: If we ever have kids, Joe, I'm not letting you name them.
JOE: What do you mean if?
SHERYLL: Well, I've got to keep my figure if I want to stay a top model.
[Joe's jaw dropped]
KEVIN: Close your mouth, Joe. I can see the food you ate for breakfast. Here we are: Baby Magic.
[Kevin parked in front of the store and they all got out. Kevin and Sam were the first to go in. A smile played on his lips]
KEVIN: Wow. Look at all these things.
SAM: What color blanket should we get it? We don't know if it's going to be a boy or girl.
KEVIN: We could get a few of each color.
JOE: I wish I could fit in here.
[Joe was looking over a crib]
NICK: I bet I can.
[Kevin, who was so happy to have a baby coming, chose more than they needed: three cribs, 5 blankets, 10 booties, 7 bibs, and 14 bottles. Not to mention 20 different toys and stuffed animals. Sam had to rein him in, but she was just as happy as he was. They paid at the register after they had gone through the whole store]
SHERYLL: Hey, there's a Starbucks across the street. I'll be right back.
JOE: I'll go with you.
SAM: Me, too. I need some coffee.
KEVIN: Who's going to help me carry these to the car?
[Kevin was trying to balance the bags over the boxes of the cribs]
JOE: Fine. I'll help you. Nick can go with the girls.
SAM: But he'll attract too much attention. Sheryll and I will be fine.
[Sam linked arms with Sheryll as they walked out. The boys would've argued but they didn't want their heads bitten off. Sam was starting to have mood swings]
[Kevin, Joe and Nick carefully loaded everything in the back of Kevin's car. Then they waited for Sheryll and Sam to get back. They could see through the glass window that the girls were already at the counter]
JOE: I can't believe Mom and Dad were so chill about you two having a baby.
KEVIN: Chill? Dad turned so red!
NICK: At least they didn't banish you guys to the ends of the earth.
JOE: How do you feel? About the baby.
KEVIN: I'm ecstatic. Sam and I should've gotten married first and all that, but I'm really glad that I'm going to be a dad.
NICK: And Joe and I are going to be uncles.
JOE: Hmm. Uncle Joe. That's going to take a long time to get used to.
[Kevin watched as Sheryll and Sam walked out of the coffee shop, carrying their drinks. They both checked the streets to make sure no cars were coming before they started walking down the crosswalk. Sam waved to Kevin when she caught him watching them]
[Nick was the first to hear the squeals of tires being pushed faster and faster. Kevin, Joe and Nick turned looked up and down the street trying to find the source of the sound, but Sheryll and Sam saw the car first. It was making a fast left turn against a red light and it was coming right at them]
[Sam saw everything as if it was put on slow motion. Kevin's face mirrored the shock on Joe's and Nick's as they saw what was about to happen. They all started running towards her and Sheryll, but she knew they'd be too late. Sheryll pulled on her arm and they tried to run back to the sidewalk to get out of the way, but again, she knew the car was coming too fast]
KEVIN: Sam!
JOE: Sheryll!
[Kevin, Joe and Nick waved their arms to get the driver's attention, but even if the driver hit the brakes, the car wouldn't be able to stop before hitting the girls]
[Sam could feel the pressure of Sheryll's arm on her as they tried to take a step away from the path of the car. Without thinking, Sam took hold of Sheryll and pulled her behind her so that she was between Sheryll and the car. Another second and they both felt the solid pressure of the car as it knocked them to the ground. The last thing Sam saw was Sheryll lying on the ground next to her, blood spilling from her. Sam was numb as Kevin screamed her name. It sounded closer. With the last breath she had in her dry lungs she whispered:]
SAM: Kevin, I'm sorry.
